Your Home

For some people, it may be challenging to travel outside of the home for medical appointments. For example, perhaps you've been in a car accident and are in need of therapy, but can no longer drive and you don't have a nearby family member to take you for a treatment. In such a scenario, it may be possible for your occupational therapist to visit you for a treatment in your home. The therapist will take whatever equipment is needed to your home, whether it's a treatment table for some hands-on work, or a series of pieces of exercise equipment to help strengthen your muscles.

The Hospital

Many occupational therapists can also treat patients in the hospital. Some occupational therapists actually work on a part-time basis in hospitals, which means that they can accept patients who are staying in the hospital. Even if the therapist doesn't have a clinic in the hospital, he or she may be able to visit you in your hospital room and perform the necessary care to help you in whatever manner you need it. The therapist can even confer with your physician to relay what type of care will be provided so that there are no problems.

A Retirement Home

Being in a retirement home, nursing home, assisted living facility, or other type of group residence doesn't mean that you necessarily have to go out to get therapy. Some occupational therapists have partnerships with such facilities to work out of the facility one or more days per week. This means that if you or someone you care for is living in such a home and requires occupational therapy, it can be extremely easy to obtain this care.
